Hearing Assessments
Understanding the steps

In order to understand your hearing the first and most important step is for us to examine your ears and auditory canal, here we are looking for wax and the condition of your ear. If wax is present we would then advise to have the wax removed before continuing with your hearing assessment.
After examining your ear we would then take a case history of relevant information regarding your hearing health. We would then begin your hearing test where Pure Tone audiometry is carried out. This will establish how well you are hearing sounds, across different frequencies and intensities. The results are recorded on an audiogram and will determine if any treatment is required.
We would then look at the audiogram together where it would be explained to you. We would discuss the nature of your hearing loss and how your hearing capabilities could be improved.
This initial examination takes approximately one hour. We are able to asses you in our clinic, or in the comfort of your own home if you are unable to travel.

If we feel that you would benefit from amplification we would recommend suitable hearing devices. With so many choices, patients are sometimes overwhelmed.
When first entering the minefield of Hearing Aids, confusion and questions inevitably arise from this, such as the following:
-
Which hearing aids are best for my lifestyle requirements?
-
What is the process when I order Hearing Aids?
-
Do I need one or two hearing aids?
-
Are there any additional fees for fitting or service?
-
Can I talk with a qualified Audiologist if I have questions?
-
What if I am not pleased?
-
What does aftercare mean?
The Hearing clinic has the experience to guide you through these questions. We offer hearing aid demonstrations for all makes of Hearing aids, i.e, Phonak, Oticon, Widex, Starkey, Unitron, Resound and Siemens. Where you can test them out before committing to buy. If after the hearing aid demonstration you wish to proceed, we would order your hearing aids in the style and colour agreed and let you know when they are in; this usually takes up to 5 days. If you do not wish to proceed then your notes are kept on file for future reference. Should you decide you would like to try a hearing aid at a later date we can pick up from whichever point is necessary.

Once your hearing aids have arrived we would then arrange a fitting appointment, lasting around 60 minutes which would include:
-
Initial fitting of hearing instrument/s
-
Programming / setting to suit your specific hearing loss and lifestyle
-
Full instruction on use and care of instrument
-
Objectives and goals set to maximise benefit from hearing instrument/s
-
Receipt of payment and plan timetable for review appointments
You will then receive a contract confirming details of purchase including invoice that is payable at the fitting stage & full explanation of the 60-day Money Back Guarantee.
After the initial fitting you will have follow up appointments but can also call us at any time if you have any questions.
-
Review Appointments

1st Review – One week after fitting – adjustments to instrument/s as required
-
2nd Review – Normally two weeks after fitting – review & adjustments following period of acclimatization

If you decide the hearing aid/s are not proving to be of benefit within the 60 days, you can simply return them to us within the agreed period and your money with be refunded in full. There is a consultation fee of £100 which is invoiced at this stage. This is to cover the initial consultation, review appointments, administration of trial and consumables such as moulds and batteries
